I too wondered how you made a Staghound into a pill box, so here is how!

Not too sure if this is the same one as I understand there were around 5 Staghounds' used to build these airbase defense structures, probably not as there are significant differences in the steel welded to the turret. but they would have all looked very similar. At this stage all I can say is that I don't envy the poor chap who was handed the hammer and chisel......

The New Project

I have never really posted before about the vehicles I am restoring in great depth, however I do really enjoy reading about the various challenges and forthcoming solutions other MV owners face in the restoration of what are ever increasingly important historical vehicles, so I thought with the aim of inspiring others I would blog about my latest restoration.

So, much against the grain of my advisers I have decided to attempt what I consider to be a fairly major restoration project. I have the goal of having this running by the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. Yes I know that seems a long time away, but in consideration of how fast the last 10 years went and the fact that the speed of time is seemingly ever increasing, I think it is a realistic target. I don't expect this blog to be updated too regularly for the next year or so as I try to collect parts, which leads me onto the fact that I need a complete gun, mantlet the lot so if you know of one then please do let me know, its the same as a Lee/Grant and any other Staghound parts.

I am already in debt to one of the worlds most knowledgeable Staghound enthusiasts (TJ) for putting me on the scent of the main part I needed to make the project viable. Second to the Locust tank the Staghound is in my opinion one of the rarest 2nd World War US armored vehicles, and so well worth trying to save this much butchered example. It also fits quite nicely with other vehicles I have restored, which when one puts so much time into a project like this is equally important.

The first step is to recover it from the land where it was retired (butchered) to pill box duty..........
